There are lots of schemes and mailing list, and new tecnologies that people insist that will make money online, but when it comes to the crunch - there are really only a few fairly stable ways of earning online.
I wanted to make money online because I didn't want to be on benefits when I was off work with a back injury. I learned lots of tecniques for making money by spending time around some of the top earners online.

If you are going to try to make money online, try not to invest too much money into it initially - you can easily test pages without spending a lot of money. Too many in their quest to make money online invest thousands in development and research - when really all you need to do is find a niche market - and write lots of genuine content about it. You can then make money by collecing a database, or by having related advertising or pay per click on the pages (this is the way that I work now). I only pay hosting fees per month, and renew my domains every 2 years and my broadband access - and thats all it should cost!! Paying lots out to make money online - can be a fatal error, as I learned myself back in 2005 - taking on a team of 5 people to develop my company on the web. I ended up over paying a group of people to do something that never really got finished because I ran out of money, and nothing was completed on time, I got scammed by an oscommerce developer who ran off with my backups and took 6 months to do something that took me only a few days to do all by myself a year later!
In the end - if you want to make money online - it can be hard if you don't know what you are doing, but the only way to learn is to talk to people, network and learn - read forums and network some more! I hope that you do make money online!
